Universal Reading System

Many students learn to read without actually learning to sound out words. They are word guessers. If a student guesses at words instead of sounding out, then comprehension and fluency are poor.

This system works for students who have struggled with reading by giving a novel approach to teaching decoding skills. Students are given a picture, colored words, nonsense words, and a story rich with the sound segment introduced.

As the student reads, a highlighter is used to train the eyes to read the actual letters. The nonsense words teach word guessers to sound out, because there isn't a mind picture to go with the word.

Once the student quits guessing at words and starts decoding, comprehension and fluency increase. Word guessers become word readers.

Hi,
I had learned a little bit about brain retraining in the past and it involved muscle testing. I found this part very difficult. Do you find that it is a necessary part of brain retraining or are you finding success without using that???
Thanks :)
