These cards are for emergent readers who do not yet know the names and sounds of the alphabet and the blends, both which are important stepping stones to reading success. The recommended age for these cards is 4 to 6 years of age. The cards are presented through feelings and emotions as the student listens to the sounds and then creates the sound with feeling in sand or shaving cream. This method works for students who have not yet mastered the alphabet or blends.
Decoding Activity Cards $25.00
These cards are for students who already know how to read but who are word guessing instead of sounding out the words. One set of cards has a picture, decoding unit, and words. The parallel card has the same decoding unit with a picture and nonsense words. Multi-syllable words are presented with a hyphen between each syllable so that students learn to sound out words correctly. This eliminates guessing. The highlighter method is also used so that students highlight the sounds being read instead of moving ahead to a different sound. This set of activity cards works well for students ages 7 to 14. Older students who struggle with reading have also shown great improvement with this system.
