Bethany was failing school and failing life. She had been retained in the third grade and was continually haunted by this. Even worse, she was convinced that she was too dumb to learn. Since she had been on an active IEP (Individual Education Plan) since she was in the first grade, she hated being pulled out of her regular class to go to the resource specialist. When presented with work, Bethany would rush through it just so she would appear t be like the other kids, since it took her so long to muddle through the information and figure out what to do.
When Bethany was in the fourth grade, the resource specialist told Bethany's parents that she would never advance beyond the fourth grade level. Her parents were deveastated by this and didn't know where to turn for help. They felt that they had exhausted every avenue of treatment that the school had offered and yet their daughter was still failing school. To top it off, Bethany had about three hours of homework every night, which caused her to be in tears on a regular basis.
Bethany began doing brain balancing exercises in the Universal Learning System. Since she had syslexia, she also did the activities from the Dyslexia Activity Book as well as reading with a marker using the Decoding Activity Cards. Once the images in Bethany's mind settled down, miracles happened. Within six months she was reading at a fifth grade level. Within a year, she was reading at a seventh grade level. She started feeling normal for the first time in her life and when given an assignment would think about it and then tackle it with confidence.
Bethany's grades soared. She was re-evaluated and performed so well on the test that she was actually raised a grade level. She is now in junior high school where she is just like any of the kids. Even better, she is smiling and confident for the first time in her life.
